Evaluation

Alex and I have decided to do our evaluation on a different website. We did to show that we could use other online tools as well as blogger. We used a website designer called Wix and created a website using this.
Click here to visit the sight.

Here are some screen shots from our sight;

Outtakes

Evidently, we took many of shot's before we actually got to our final video. So this is a video to show some of the shots we took, and did't use. Some of them weren't used for obvious reasons, and some, we just could't hold it together long enough to get the shot. So here are some of our 'bloopers' do enjoy, and we apologise for some of the language.

Film Summary and Meaning

We are only making a trailer for our film. However, we thought it would be a good idea to do a full summary of what would have happened in the film, if we were to make the whole thing.  Evidently with the time scale we had, and lack of money, it would have been near impossible to make the whole film, so this would have been out of the question plus it wasn't our task, buut here is what direction the film would've taken.
Plot synopsis
The film will have started at the bands early days, before they were really famous, and the guys were just friends, writing and making music from their home made music studio (this part of the film will have revealed information fans of the band may not have known). The band got famous, simply by uploading one of their tracks onto the 'BBC introducing' system, and from here they went from strength to strength. It will have shown the people the met along their road of fame, some of the extraordinary gigs they got to play, and some of the thousands of fans they had.
It will also show a lot of exclusive behind the scenes footage of the band, on their bus, in houses, and various different venues.

It would then go on to, showing some of the band members drunk, and having a laugh, but it beginning to escalate further, as one of the band members would have began to be constantly drunk, and getting further and further into drugs. It will have shown some behind the scenes arguments, but them still going on stage and performing their set. The film would have portrayed some of the trouble some of the band members get into, whether it was playful banter or something more harmful (hence the mug shot in the trailer of Joel). this is popular within popular bands and so it wouldn't have been different for ours and that is something we wanted to portray- that fame is fragile.

Even throughout the problems the band were having, the film will highlight, the friendship and love the band members shared between each other. Home footage of weddings and anniversaries would have been shown, to show the happy and pleasant times the band shared even though some of them were having problems. We were going to include an interview with a fictional 'famous' friend of the bands, but it was later decided we were going to leave it out as it didst match the fast pace of the trailer.

It would then cut to news articles and headlines announcing the death of one of the band members. It would have shown the heartbreak and pain the remaining band members went through, and show snippets of the funeral for the late band member. It would then go on to show the hate the rest of the band members had for the paparazzi, and how little they wanted to be seen in the public eye. It would show the rage of the remaining band members, and what their grief was doing to them.
The film will then cut the present day, and an interview with Alex, one of the band members. He would be talking about what it did to him when Joel died, what they had together, and the love he shared with him. It will reveal answers to questions such as why the band will never play again, and whether they would ever go back on tour. This was the meaning that is hidden in our trailer. It depicts Alex running through an empty hall full of empty seats that is a metaphor for the fall of the band, going from playing in front of thousands of people to an empty hall. The empty seats have a huge impact and is quite daunting and emphasis the loss of a band member. Moreover, Alex is wearing a dark suit, like one you would wear for a funeral. The flowers on the piano also adds to the meaning, having connotations of funerals and venerability further adds to the revelation of a band members death.
We edited this to be black and white to enhance the idea of death, it made it more effective because flowers, known for their beauty, and in monotone and dark colours. by including all this, we were hoping that with a little thought the audience would get the message and the meaning and be able to tell form the clues. If that doesn't help, at the very end of the trailer when the title is displayed writes 'In memoriem' , so we leave it to the very last few seconds to make it absolutely obvious that something has happened.

The film will end with slow motion shots of the bands happy times together, showing the band laughing and having fun together. This is when the titles will come on, while the footage is being show.

Drafts of Magazine Cover

Much like the designing of our film poster, the designing of the cover of our magazine also came with a lot of drafting. We wanted our cover to look professional, and original so this wasn't an easy task we set ourselves up for. Because I like the image so much of the microphone, I decided to try and make it work for our magazine cover;

Even though the image is a great image and I think is perfect for our film, I don't think it works as a cover. Because our cover has to have a fair amount of information on it I feel that it takes the simplicity away from the image, and it just doesn't quite work. It is a shame because it is a nice image however, it's not right for the cover.

I decided to change the image I used to try and make the cover work;
Personally I think that this image works much better, and also gives a good insight to what the film will be about. I tried to keep the colour scheme simple, so for example, the yellow I used is the same yellow of the singers trousers. I did this in an attempt to keep the title of the film linked to the cover image, and I think I achieved this. However I am not sure whether I like the colour of the background in this image. Below I decided to change the image to black and white;

Personally I feel that the image in black and white works much better. I decided to keep the two different coloured fonts, because the colours are opposites on the colour spectrum meaning that by clashing they work well together. I also decided to move the name of our film up slightly, so that the writing isn't covering any of the person.
Even though 'Empires' isn't the name of an actual magazine, we feel that it is too similar to the film magazine 'Empire' and as I stated earlier we wanted our cover to be original, so we didn't want to use this name as it would't be sticking to our plans for our cover. For our final cover, we will have to think of a new name for our magazine.
